Privacy policy
What Christlike knows about you, and what it never will.
Written in plain language. Applies to the Christlike Android app and the website getchristlike.com.
The short version. Your Prayer Room, notes and reading stay on your phone. With an account we store what is needed to keep your progress, friends and groups working, and nothing more. We never read your contacts, never sell your data, and never use it for advertising. You can see, download and delete your data at any time.
Who we are
Christlike is made by Billiminds ("we", "us"). Contact us at [email protected].
What stays on your phone
These things stay on your phone only:
- Your onboarding answers, including your church tradition. We only count, without knowing who you are, how many people finished each onboarding step.
- My Prayer Room entries (stored encrypted, optionally behind your phone's fingerprint or PIN lock; the app never sees your fingerprint).
- Bible highlights, notes and saved verses; chapters you marked read; your text-size and reading position.
- Quiz scores and recently seen questions; recent searches; your reminder times, theme and language.
- Your Faith Streak and daily plan, until you sign in, when they sync to your account.
The app fetches content (verses, devotionals, prayers, questions, Behind this chapter notes) from our server. Those requests carry no account details and are protected by Firebase App Check, which tells our server the request comes from a genuine copy of the app.
Anonymous usage statistics
To know which parts of the app are used, the app sends anonymous counts (for example that a devotional was opened or a quiz finished) with a random ID created when the app was installed. The ID is not linked to you or your phone; our server only uses it, in scrambled (hashed) form, to count daily users and deletes it within two days. Search terms that look like a phone number or an email address are dropped before sending. Nothing typed into the Prayer Room or Seek and Find is ever included. Switch this off in You → Settings → Share anonymous usage stats.
What we store when you create an account
Accounts (friends, groups, gifts, Seek and Find) are for people aged 13 and up, or older where local law requires it (for example 16 in parts of the EU). An account lets you keep your plan, streak and Seeds when you change phones, add friends, join groups, play with others and use Seek and Find.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your sign-in. When you sign in with Google or with an email and password, Google Firebase Authentication (our sign-in provider) keeps your email address, a password (stored scrambled by Firebase; we never see it) or your Google account ID, and whether your email is verified. | To let you sign in and keep your account safe. |
| Your profile: username, display name, your phone's time zone (and when it changed, at most once a day), and your choices for "find me by username", "show my streak to friends" and "friend nudges". | So friends can find and recognise you, and so your days, weeks and streak follow your own calendar fairly. |
| Your daily progress: for each day you open your plan, the date, whether you finished it and the size of your plan; your streak and best streak; Rest Days and Grace Days used. | To keep your streak and plan in step across your phones and work out your streak fairly. |
| Seeds and growth: each time you earn or spend Seeds (what for and when), the unlocks you own, your level. | To show your garden, level and unlocks, and to stop cheating. |
| Friends: your friends, friend requests you sent or received, the people you blocked, nudges you sent (kept 14 days), your invite code and who invited you. | To run friends, the leaderboard, streak buddies and invites. |
| Notifications inbox: things that happened for you (friend requests and acceptances, Seeds gifts, your turn or the result in a Sword Drill, group news, the weekly friends bonus), each with who it was from, the date and whether you read it. Kept 60 days, at most the latest 200. | To show you what happened while you were away and let you act on it. |
| Reports you send about another person, a group or a post (the reason and an optional note). | So our team can keep Christlike safe. |
| When your account was created and last used. | To spot abuse and show the team how many people use accounts. |
| Sword Drill: who you challenged or were challenged by, the questions of each duel, your answers, how long each answer took, the scores and the result. Deleted 90 days after the duel ends. | To run duels fairly (answers are checked on our server) and award Seeds for wins. |
| Groups: the groups you create or join (name, description, join code), your role, when you joined, whether a leader removed you; reports you send about a group. | To run church and fellowship groups, their member lists and leaderboards. |
| Daily Drill and Word Quest: the drill items you were given each day and your answers, and the Word Quests you started and completed (date and score). Deleted after 30 days. | To score your answers on our server and award Seeds once a day. |
| Chapters read: which Bible chapters you finished, and when you first did. | To award Seeds the first time you read a chapter. |
| Gifts: Seeds you sent to friends or received, with the amount and date. Your friend's own history keeps the gift if you delete your account, without your name. | To run gifting fairly (daily limits) and show your Seeds history. |
| Your style: the streak-flame and Seeds-badge colours you chose (friends see them), and a group banner a leader chose. | To show your choices to you and your friends. |
| Journeys: the Journeys you start, pause, leave or finish, the day you are on, the date you finished each lesson, your answers to its practice questions and how many were right, and whether you did it with a group. | To unlock one lesson a day, score practice answers on our server, award Seeds once per lesson and show your group's progress. |
| Live quiz rooms: the rooms you host or join (with the display name you had then), your answers, how fast you answered, your points, your place and any prize. Deleted 30 days after the room ends. | To run the game fairly (timed and scored on our server) and award Seeds to the top three. |
| Group walls: the encouragement posts you write in a group, your "Amen"s, and reports you send about a post. A removed post is deleted 30 days after it was removed. When someone reports a post, the report keeps the post's text for our moderators until 90 days after they have dealt with it; then the text is erased. | To show the wall to the group's members and to handle reports. |
| Seek and Find: the questions you ask, its answers (with the Bible references it gave and suggested follow-up questions), when you asked, and how many questions you used that day; answers you flag (the reason and your note). Kept 90 days; you can delete one conversation or all of them at any time. | To answer you, keep your conversations so you can come back to them, keep the daily limit fair, and improve answers. |
| Sower: whether you have Sower and why: for a Google Play subscription, the purchase token Google gives the app, the plan (monthly or yearly), its state (trial, active, cancelled, on hold, expired), when it renews or ends, the Google Play order number and whether it was a test purchase; or complimentary Sower our team gave you (dates and a short note). We never see or store your card or payment details: Google Play handles payment. | To give you Sower, check it with Google, and handle renewals, cancellations and support. |
We store a random account number for you; other people only ever see your username, display name, a coloured initial, your current streak (unless you hide it), your growth this week, your streak badges and, on the leaderboard, your total growth.
What other people can see
- Friends see the public details above, whether you finished today (unless you hide your streak), and can nudge you (unless you turn friend nudges off). Every friend request must be accepted.
- In a group, members see the same public details, your role and when you joined. In a group Journey they see whether you joined it, the day you are on and whether you finished today's lesson, never your practice answers. Wall posts are seen by everyone in the group with your public details and the number of "Amen"s; the leader can remove them, and so can you.
- In a Sword Drill, your friend sees your score and answers only once you have both played.
- In a live room, other players see only your display name, coloured initial, points and place: never your username or account number.
- Your inbox, your Seek and Find conversations and your Prayer Room are only yours.
- People you block cannot find you or see you anywhere, and are not told.
What we never store or share
- Your Prayer Room entries and private notes stay on your phone. They are never sent to us and never earn Seeds.
- Your onboarding answers, including your church tradition, stay on your phone.
- We do not store your contacts and do not match them. We do not store your location (only your time-zone setting) or your IP address with your account.
- We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising. Ads in the app, where shown, are not linked to your account.
- Seeds cannot be bought and have no money value.
Seek and Find and the AI service
Questions are answered by an AI service, Anthropic (Claude), which processes them for us as a service provider: we send the question, the last few questions and answers of that conversation, and Bible text from our app, never your name, email or account. Anthropic does not use our API data to train its models, and keeps it only for a limited time for safety and abuse checks, under its commercial terms. Our team sees a question and its answer only when you flag the answer, without your name or account. Do not share private details about yourself or others in questions. If a question suggests you may be in danger, the app shows helplines for your country (the country is read from your phone and never sent to us); we do not contact anyone.
Sower and Google Play
Sower is billed by Google Play under Google's own terms. Google tells our server whether a subscription is active, and the app passes Google a one-way scrambled form of your account number so the purchase can be matched to your account. We never see your payment details. Deleting your Christlike account does not cancel a Google Play subscription: cancel it in the Play Store.
Notifications
Daily reminders (morning verse, midday prayer, evening) are scheduled on your phone from content it already has; nothing is sent to a server to ring them. The app registers with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging on first launch so that we can send announcements and, with an account, friend and group notifications; the phone's notification permission only decides whether they are shown. You can switch every kind off in Settings.
Crash reports and app integrity
Release builds send crash reports to Google Firebase Crashlytics (device model, Android version, app version, what the app was doing when it crashed), never your account or content. Firebase App Check with Google Play Integrity tells our server that requests come from a genuine copy of the app; it does not identify you.
Advertising
Christlike may show ads; Sowers don't see ads. Where ads are shown, they come from Google AdMob (with Google's consent form where required; AdMob may use your phone's advertising ID and a rough location from your IP address under Google's privacy policy) or are direct ads clearly labelled "Sponsored". Ads are never linked to your account.
Who can see your data
- Our team (a few people, signed in with two-factor security) can see your username, display name, account dates, status, time zone, sign-in method, streak, Seeds and growth, Grace Days, how many friends and synced days you have, and reports about you (never who sent them), to handle reports and keep the service working. Only the account owner role can look up your sign-in email, and every look-up is recorded. Our team can see a group's name, description and member list (public details only) to handle reports.
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Messaging, App Check, Crashlytics) processes data for us as a service provider.
- Anthropic answers Seek and Find questions for us as a service provider (see above).
- Google Play handles Sower payments under Google's own terms.
- Cloudflare sits in front of our servers and this website as a network provider.
Your data is stored on secure servers and with trusted providers that may be in other countries, protected by appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep account data while you have an account. When you delete it, we delete it at once (sign-in, profile, progress, Seeds, friends, blocks, groups, Journeys, rooms, wall posts, "Amen"s, Seek and Find conversations, Sower records), except that reports already sent to our moderators are kept without any names, account numbers or notes, so they no longer identify anyone. A group you lead passes to its longest-standing member, or is deleted if nobody else is in it. A live room you host ends at once.
- Nudges: 14 days. Daily Drill rounds and Word Quests: 30 days. Notifications inbox: 60 days (latest 200). Live rooms and their results: 30 days after the room ends. Removed wall posts: 30 days. The text of a reported post: 90 days after our moderators dealt with the report. Ended Sword Drills: 90 days. Seek and Find conversations: 90 days, or at once when you delete them.
- Copies of our database (backups): a nightly copy is kept for 14 days, and a copy made just before each software update is kept until 30 newer update copies exist.
- Our web servers and Cloudflare keep standard access logs (IP address, time and the address requested; usernames are never part of the address) for a limited time to keep the service secure; they are not linked to your account. To stop abuse, the server also keeps short-lived counters of requests per account and per IP address, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form and deleted within a day.
- While accounts are open to testers only, a sign-in that is turned away is noted for up to 7 days (the sign-in's Firebase user ID, a masked email such as "a…r@g…l.com" and the time) so the team can let testers in.
Deleting your account
- In the app: You → Settings → Delete account. You will be asked to sign in again first. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
- On the web: if you cannot open the app, ask at our web deletion form with your username and email. We check that the email matches the account and delete it within 30 days. We erase the email and any note you give us there 30 days after we handle the request (we keep the username and the date as a record that the request was handled).
- Download your data first if you want a copy: You → Settings → Download my data. It includes your profile, days, Seeds history, friends, groups, Journeys and lessons (with each practice answer), live rooms (with each answer), wall posts, "Amen"s, the reports you made, your notifications inbox, your Seek and Find conversations and flagged answers, and your Sower records (never the purchase token).
Full details: Delete your account.
Your rights
You can see (Download my data), correct (edit your profile) and delete (Delete account) your data at any time in the app. For anything else, including requests under the laws of your country, contact [email protected].
Children
Christlike's content is suitable for all ages. Accounts (friends, groups, gifts, Seek and Find) are for people aged 13 and up, or older where local law requires it (for example 16 in parts of the EU). Christlike is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them; if you believe a child under 13 has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
This website
getchristlike.com sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics and loads no third-party scripts unless you choose a language or press play on a video. Your choice of light or dark theme, your language and a dismissed announcement are kept in your own browser's storage and never sent to us.
Choosing a language. The site is written in English. If you pick another language from the language menu (or accept the suggestion to view the page in your language), your browser loads Google's website translator from translate.google.com and sends the text of the page you are viewing to Google to translate it, under Google's privacy policy. Google may set its own cookies when you use it; the site removes the language cookie Google's translator sets and remembers your choice in your browser's storage instead. Bible verses and references are not sent for translation. Choose English (or "Back to English") to stop; nothing is loaded from Google until you choose a language again.
Videos. Some blog posts include a YouTube or Vimeo video. Until you press play, the page shows a still picture from our own server and nothing is loaded from YouTube or Vimeo. When you press play, your browser loads the player from YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com) or from Vimeo (with its do-not-track setting). They then receive your IP address and the address of the page, and may store data in your browser, under Google's privacy policy or Vimeo's privacy policy.
The verse of the day on the home page asks our content server for today's verse; that request carries only the date. Invitation links (/join, /group, /room) show the code in the link and pass it to the Google Play Store so the app can read it after installing; nothing about you is stored. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps standard access logs for a limited time to keep it secure.
Changes
When this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and date the new version here. Earlier versions are available on request.
